This is my 2013 grabber blue mustang gt. I’ve done afew things to it. Lowered it, full stereo system, muffler deletes and plastidip led my wheels(though that’s nothing big). It’s a pretty cool car, and I really do love it. Best/coolest car I’ve ever owned.
So, why do I have a weird unexplainable itch to sell it for a Subaru crosstrekxv?
Crazy, right?

That’s yo’ inner freakydeaky car enthusiast...
The same voice that makes an Isuzu Vehicross a no-brainer if I came up on one with low miles. I’m actually looking forward to a family soz I can get a Honda Odyssey and pimp it out.
Or yeah I could see myself owning a custom van with a bed in the back. Park it right next to the Odyssey.
Word of advice maybe don’t google

If you’re gonna sell something like a Mustang GT, get something that is more fun, not less. That lifted Impreza is not going to be funner than a Mustang. The BRZ however, can be had for close to same price and will be fun.

What about an sti and then lift it up? I think the jump from a Mustang to an crosstrek is quite big.

I like weird things, but when I really consider it I don't think I could sell the stang for it. The mustang is just too fun of a car.

I test drove a FR-S about 30 minutes after I test drove the mustang. You can see what I ended up with. The toybaru twins are fun at lower speeds, but the sheer brute power and torque of the mustang was what won out. I felt like I was going in slow motion on the highway compared to the mustang. I actually had a MKV GTI at the time, and it felt so much more balanced and faster than the FRS.

Mustang owner here. I almost sold mine for a Golf Sportwagen. I miss Volkswagens. At the time, I had severely injured my left ankle and couldn’t drive a manual for a while. In a matter of days I had to make a 700 mile trek in my Mustang that had mods that made it painfully difficult to drive with a near broken ankle. For a while, I had been pining over getting a practical daily driver. The current daily is an old CRX with a big ass turbo. It spends more time in the garage than the Mustang does.
Any way, to wrap this up, I test drove the Sportwagen and really enjoyed it; until I tried to accelerate on the highway. The Sportwagen couldn’t replicate the scream of big cams, minimal exhaust, and 4.10 gears in a gas guzzling irresponsible excuse for a car. The Mustang has a presence. A presence that neither my mid 20s ego nor my near broken ankle could let go of. I didn’t get rid of the Mustang and neither should you. Instead, I ‘Muricuh’d up and forced my gimpy ankle to press that clutch pedal for the 700 mile trip.
‘Muricuh up, cowboy.

There’s an Oddyssey parked next to my mustang in the garage right now. This is our second Oddysey, and my wife loves it. Actually, I’ve never been Ina more comfortable vehicle on a long trip than our ‘13 Oddyesey. I haven’t really done anything in it, except put in two 9" tvs in the headrests for the kids. Keeps them entertained on the long trips.

Honestly, highway pulls and any sort of fun through horsepower is not gonna last. That’s like entry-level fun. You’ll get bored of that kind of stuff real quick. Maybe you don’t drive around tackling corners and mountain roads so I can see why you would like the Mustang better.
For me, the corner carving is real engagement and fun. Pressing the gas pedal and feeling a bit of acceleration is meh. You might have made a mistake if you picked a Mustang over an FR-S, but thankfully you’ve grown out of that. Now go get an NA Miata and join the gang.

I think the mustang will stay. It’s funny the list of cars you went through. My list is pretty similar actually. I had a crx from 1998-2009. I sold/traded it when I got a 2005 GTI. Worst decision I ever made in a car. In March of 2013 my wife made me sell it, because it kept breaking and needing money put into it. I traded it in for the mustang and here I am. I absolutely love the mustang. Maybe I shouldn't trade for the Subaru. The last time I irrationally bought a car I got the VW, which was a terrible move. I knew it was problematic, but still did anyway.

The MKIV platform was problematic (I’ve owned two) except for the MKIV R32 (I’ve owned one). I will go out on a limb and say that R32 was the best car I’ve owned; until recently. I’ve made so many modifications the the suspension in this Mustang that I’m beginning to miss the R32 less now. Still a damn fine car though.

I had a crx and a GTI before the mustang. Those were fun lower power cars. The thing is I drive 23 miles each way to and from work each day. When I want to pass someone in the mustang I push the go pedal and it does just that without even trying. The Toyobaru I had to drop two gears and rev up to do the same thing. Comparing the Toyobaru to the GTI was similar. When I left the dealership in the GTI after the test drive I knew I was making the right choice to go with the mustang. Now don't get me wrong. I love small fun cars, but horsepower and torque get the biggest smiles everyday.

The suspension mods made a huge difference in the mustang. Got rid of the floatiness going around corners. I did Eibach sportlines on Koni STR.ts.

It is a big jump. I don’t know that I could actually do it though. I’ve always really liked the WRX too, but the crosstrek is just weird. Now a crosstrek with a wrx swap would be sweet.

I had a Kona blue 2011 with the brembo package...always loved the taillights on the 2013+ cars and Grabber Blue-awesome color.
Ended up buying a Viper...the Mustang ended up not getting driven much so I sold it. Still miss it once in a while.

The 13-14 tails are really the best looking ones. I really think this is the best body style mustang they've ever made. How do you enjoy the viper? What year did you get?

Oh how I would love that, but my car is a DD. That would be so fun, but driving in Atlanta everyday with that would a bit too much. Car isn't quite paid off. Nothing big like that happens until it is, but I like the way you think.

I don’t understand this notion that the car Gods have only seen fit the bless those that drive a Miata or E30 something with “fun”. I own a big fat modded Magnum. It’s pretty quick in a straight line. I’ve owned it for almost 4 years, and I gotta say highway on ramp pulls in a 500hp+ V8 still has not gotten old. Neither has blasting through long tunnels. I have even autocrossed in it a few times. You know what? It was still a blast. Was it fast at the autocross track? Naw, not really. I’m not a really competitive guy so I was just there to have fun. I don’t know, maybe “fun” just means something different to Miata guys.

Miata and E30 fun is not based on speed and numbers. It’s about being one with the car. Feeling everything and being in control of everything. Having a short wheelbase and balance means purposely inducing oversteer on streets and knowing you can control it with ease. It is having the limits within reach at speeds not stupidly fast. Love the miata, love the E30. Your mustang is fast, but trust me, you are not the one having fun. That guy in the E30 who you can pass with just a pinch of the throttle, he’s the one having the fun.

Completely agree. I hate the looks of the new mustang (other than the GT350R, which is badass).
Bought a 96 GTS. It’s awesome. Wouldn’t DD it though.

Kooks headers! If I didn’t live in Commiefornia, I’d have put a set on my 2011 when I had it. The coyote can fairly easily put down 500 to the wheels, all-motor.

I totally agree. Fun is not about numbers. I agree 200% the Miata is an awesome autocross car. I’ll be the first guy to sing its praises at the track. I agree it’s a great driver’s car too. I think you missed the point or maybe I wasn’t clear. Fun is almost entirely subjective. To say that your brand of fun is better than anyone else’s because you drive a Miata is the kind of elitist ignorance that I think Oppo readers are growing tired of. We all have different likes and dislikes. We don’t all have to aspire to drive a Miata. Varity is the spice of life. There are tons of Miata and E30 something forums. Please take your Miata centric posts there. Agree to disagree I guess.

Let me tell you right now working for a place where I would know these things, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING SUBARU with the new 4cy unless its a turbo car or a 3.6R. Just don’t. Unless you like oil consumption issues, short block replacements, and over all head aches, just don’t. Look they make great cars, but the CAFE standards are crazy and 0w-20 oil is way too thin for horizontal motors especially when they had oil leak issues with 5w-30. Just keep the stang and add turbos.

I sense some hostility in your response? There is not need for that. I’m just arguing for the side that knows driving some 500 hp, 2-ton barge of a car on the street is NOT fun. You can keep saying fun is subjective but some things are learned through experience the hard way. That’s why people who care about their perceived dick size and image and numbers buy mustangs, people who want to have fun buy miatas. Generalizing here but that’s the jist of it. A 100 hp light weight car will objectively be more fun on the street than a 500 hp car. That’s like having a high maintenance trophy wife but the only thing she doles out are handjobs. The miata is the girlfriend who blows you and your mind every night.

It seriously is. That said, I think it’s one of those where it feels slower than it actually is - the sensation of speed is insulated by both the ride height and the CVT. It would make a nice runabout to pair with your GT, but I think you’d be very unhappy if it was your only car.
